How different is this from Contact Tracing Apps?

The contract tracing apps track users’ movements everywhere they go, and flag any close contact with infected persons.

The EMAT mobile apps simple check if users remain within their designated quarantine location boundaries. It does not track any contact with any persons. EMAT is proactive, rather than reactive.

How does EMAT maintain user privacy?

The tags/wristbands do not collect or store any personal information. They also do not track and therefore does not report user’s specific movements within their designated quarantine areas.

For instance, the tags do not determine whether a user is in the kitchen, living room or any specific area of his/her home.

What are the risks of this solution?

Risk-free solutions are uncommon in times of pandemics. There are simply no 'silver bullets' for COVID-19.

However, EMAT-related risks are reduced to the barest minimum by making the tags single-use only. The solution is battle-tested on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis, and have proved crucial to governments around the world.

It is also recommended that a criteria (based on data, science and technology) be set to determine the prime candidates/target audience for piloting and eventual scaling.

What makes this solution cheaper?

In many developing countries, inbound travellers bear 100% of their room and board costs at the government-approved quarantine facilities (hotels).

The EMAT eliminates a chunk of this cost (over 30% in many cases) by allowing inbound travellers to self-quarantine at home.

How safe and reliable is the EMAT solution?

Only world-class, hospital grade tags are deployed. The tags are hypoallergenic, waterproof and tamper-proof, and are single- use only.

The tags are based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, and are currently CE, FCC and ROHS certified/compliant, which are internationally-recognised standards for such communication devices

What if a user has no mobile phone?

There is the option of deploying a GPS and LTE-enabled device, known as a ‘Gateway’ that can replace the need to pair mobile phones, i.e. the Gateway can pair directly with the tags/wristband. This may have added cost implications
